The conference will focus on both the fundamental and applied aspects of friction, wear and lubrication, at all scales. NORDTRIB 2018 will be held in the University Main Building in Uppsala (Sweden) from June 18th – 21st, 2018.

COMBINED HIGH VACUUM HIGH TEMPERATURE TRIBOMETER WITH IN-SITU WEAR OR RAMAN MEASUREMENT
Pin-on-disk tribology has been used for many years under various environmental conditions (temperature, relative humidity, vacuum) but the continuous surface evolution in topography or chemical composition as a function of time is not easy to measure. Principles of high vacuum high temperature tribometer are reviewed and a new combination of high temperature tribometer with in-situ measurements of surface topography or chemical composition is presented here.
A ball-on-disk high vacuum high temperature tribometer is combined at first with a digital holographic microscope (DHM) for in situ real-time measurement of the wear track. The machine is tested and validated for surface profile measurements by taking DHM images during wear tests at room and high temperatures and in vacuum at 2·10-6 mbars of polished 100Cr6 steel disks. Correlation between the images and profiles of the wear track taken by the DHM is compared with the ones from a confocal microscope.
A second setup of ball-on-disk high vacuum high temperature tribometer combined with a Raman microscope is introduced. Chemical composition on the surface can be directly measured on the wear track.
Advantages and limitations of these methods are explained.
