Three-dimensional EDX Mapping of an Alloy Fracture Surface
Using SU5000
Using SU5000
Fractography is used to evaluate the cause of material failure. To determine the dependence between decohesion mechanisms and material microstructure, descriptions of characteristic fracture surface features are essential. Such features include fracture profiles, cleavage facets, voids and grain boundaries. The large depth of field of scanning electron microscopes makes them important research tools for fracture surface characterization. Three-dimensional EDX mapping performed on Hitachi‘s SU5000 Schottky FE-SEM provides insight in alloy fracture surfaces.
