Characterizing hardness properties of steels and ceramics at high temperature is essential in applications like engines, turbines, metal working and catalysis. The Hot Hardness Tester is eligible to measure Rockwell and Vickers hardness in a temperature range RT to 1200°C. Dedicated materials are used to provide excellent insulation to the heating chamber (the external body maintains cool, even when the internal temperature is at 1200°C).
High resolution load cells are further isolated using innovative design and methods resulting in negligible thermal drift during the test. An optional oxygen reduction chamber allows testing under an inert gas atmosphere to reduce oxidation of the material and indenter.
